Gas smells like rotten eggs, doesn't it? Definitely not! After moving home or changing their gas supplier, many people ask: "What does gas smell like?" or "How do I recognise leaking natural gas?"

Since natural gas has not had its own characteristic odour for a long time, so-called odorants are added to warn of leaking natural gas and ensure the safety of gas consumers.

The now obsolete sulphur-containing gas additives actually smelled of rotten eggs, which is because they contain sulphur. Today, natural gas generally smells of sulphur-free odorants, such as Gasodor® S-Free.
